Pre-wired flexible conduit from Adaptaflex brings significant time saving on new build installationA new Q-Park development of quality parking in Central Glasgow is the latest building to use Korifit pre-wired flexible conduit systems from Adaptaflex as an integral part of its wiring systems.
Q-Park, noted for its high quality secure parking provision throughout the country and particularly at airports and major cities, is a worldwide operation and the new, seven floor parking complex in Glasgow is one of its latest developments.
Electrical contractors on the project were Weir & McQuiston (Scotland) Ltd, based in Wishaw. Commenting on the installation Ross Mitchell explained, “Ordinarily on a project such as this we would cast in situe galvanised metal conduit within the concrete pour and thereafter draw in the sub circuit cabling, Quite a time consuming operation but recognised as standard practise.
“In this instance we chose to use pre-wired flexible conduit for the buried electrics on each floor cast into the concrete. It saved us a substantial amount of time on the project and was a factor in our tender for the project being very competitive in the first place.”
In fact, the project called for thousands of metres of pre-wired flexible, which was simply installed where required prior to the concrete flooring being poured. Once the concrete had set it was a case of connecting up the wiring to the various electrical power, lighting and security appliances throughout the development.
“It's the first time we've used pre-wired flexible conduit like this and to be honest the time saved really was as good as we had anticipated,” added Ross Mitchell of Weir & McQuiston.
“We will certainly be using it on other projects as it has already proven the convenience and time saving advantages it brings to projects such as this.”
Call off of the various size and wire configurations of Korifit flexible conduit systems were made direct with local electrical wholesalers Ross Electrical in Glasgow and supplied to site along with other electrical requirements for the project.
The original selection of the Adaptaflex pre-wired system over traditional galvanised rigid conduit was down to installation time savings that could be achieved on the jobs and the convenience of using the product. It was also down to local Adaptaflex Manager Jim Walls making the central purchasing department of Weir & McQuiston aware of the pre-wired system and its already proven capabilities on construction projects involving burial of systems.
