Adaptaflex responds to 'Cry in the Dark'

Adaptaflex has donated conduit for use in the construction of a special children's hospice being built by children's charity Cry in the Dark.

Located in Bacau, Romania, the hospice, nurse training and community centre is for children suffering the effects of HIV/Aids. The Romanian builder had requested the flexible conduit for the electrical first fix and Cry in the Dark's Founder/Director Steve Cooper appealed for help. Jonathan Harris of Atkins Global contacted Adaptaflex and received an instant positive response.

“This was such a worthwhile cause that we did not hesitate in responding positively to Cry in the Dark's appeal,” said Dave White, Adaptaflex Sales Director.

“It's good to know that our product is well known in the market and we will keep in close contact with the organisation. The hospice will be a fantastic facility not only for the children, but also for the local community in Bacau.”

In total over 2,700 metres of Adaptalok non-metallic flexible conduit and fittings were supplied to the charity to enable the electrical work to be carried out.

This will be the second project that Cry in the Dark have in Romania. In 1998, the organisation built, opened and now runs a home called Casa Lumina for 24 children with severe learning difficulties and special needs.

“Donations, such as the generous one from Adaptaflex, really are how we get the work done and without them projects come to a halt,” explained Steve Cooper. “We always need more to achieve our goal – ‘reaching out to children'.

“The young people in this area who are HIV positive, as a result of infected blood transfusions when they were babies, are often neglected or even abandoned by their families. Other families want to care for their children, but don't have the resources and are desperate for respite care for themselves and their children.

“We want to do everything in our power to reach these young people, to offer support, treatment, love and care, and ultimately a place to die with dignity. That's why donations such as Adaptaflex's are so vital to us.”
