Tommy Hill makes the podium at Snetterton As promised, Tommy Hill, of the Virgin Mobile Yamaha Superbike team, made the podium at Snetterton in what proved to be an amazing second race of the day.
In qualifying Tommy produced an epic performance to start from the front row of the grid for the first time this season. This put him in his rightful position alongside the cream of the British Superbike Championship: Haslam, Lavilla and Kiyonari.
All the more amazing because the performance came after Tommy had risen from his hospital bed having had food poisoning the weekend before.
In the second Superbike race of the day he had 25,000 race fans on their feet with an impressive start as he maintained his position in the lead four riders. After 10 laps the race was red flagged and a restart was scheduled for an 8 lap sprint race, with Tommy holding 5th place. There was still more drama to unfold as championship leader Greg Lavilla crashed out of the race and the pace car was deployed.
When it returned to the pit lane with three laps remaining a titanic battle ensued right to the line and Tommy managed to squeeze past Michael Laverty to snatch 3rd place in what was a nail-biting finish. This was the best result of the season so far for the Virgin Mobile Yamaha Superbike team.
One of Tommy's sponsors this season is the UK's No1 flexible conduit systems manufacturer Adaptaflex and he carries the company logo on his leathers in every round of the Championship.
